The Bristol Adventure
Some of you may already know that I was in Bristol for LFMpire workshop by Robert Puddy and Donna Fox. I would have posted about going there at the first place but it wasn’t something I had planned till 2 days before the workshop.
The event had many Big Guns as speakers and some of the biggest names in the Internet Marketing industry came down to socialize and network. The speakers were Donna Fox and Robert Puddy [hosts] and Omar Martin, Martin Avis, Simon leong, Jonny Andrews, Amber Hamid, Sterling Valentine and Jani G.
Ok so you are probably wondering why I would call it an ‘Adventure’. Well I was gonna call it a nightmare but in the end, it all worked out well and it was all well worth it. If you are reading this and you were at the workshop, you already know where I am getting at
Before I get into the Adventure part, I must tell you that I’ve decided to split this post about ‘what happened at the workshop into two because If I write all about it, you will be here reading for days. So this post is going to be about the ordeal and why I call it ‘The Adventure’ and the next is going to be what actually happened there with some pictures I managed to take there.
Ok so here are some things you may wanna know first:
- I had to get to Bristol from Middlesbrough.
- It is a 6 hours Drive.
- I was flying there from New Castle Airport.
- It took me 16 hours to get there.
The most common question I got asked at the workshop was, ‘How the Heck do you miss 2 flights in a row?’ but that is less embarassing compared to when I was called upon stage during the workshop and got presented a T-Shirt for having the longest journey, now I don’t know whether it was sympathy, taking the mick, just being humourous or was it a prize for my courage and commitment.
When I say commitment, I say commitment. I almost changed my mind about going to the workshop around 10 times, paid twice as much and missed 2 flights. Hey did I tell you I even ended up at the wrong hotel? or that I missed the first day of the workshop?
Anyways, I set off at 6.00am and got to the ‘right’ hotel at around 11:55pm so you know when I say adventure, I mean adventure. It wasn’t a nightmare though because at the end of the day it all worked on in my favour in a funny kind of way.
When I got to Bristol City centre, I phoned my friend Mark Lyford to let him know that I was finally there and had missed 2 flights. By the time I got to the hotel, pretty much everyone in the hotel lounge at the time knew about it.
I soon got some attention from people who didn’t know me. Met some friends that I already knew and was glad to see them such as Matt Garrett, Randy Smith, John Reed and others [sorry if I missed your name].
By the next day, pretty much everyone was pointing at me and I could hear whispers like ‘hey thats the guy who took 16 hours to get here’ and ‘ hey dude, this guy missed 2 flights in a row’. At first, I wasn’t really happy about it but like I’ve mentioned before, this things worked out in my favor.
2nd day of the event, I went to check out Jonny Andrews presentation and right before he was about to start and Donna Fox is standing at the stage about to invite Jonny on stage and I had literally just got into the room, Robert Puddy comes to me, put his hand on my shoulder and announces ’How about we give it to the most deserving person in the room’ and everyone turn around looking at me, standing at the back of the room. I personally had no idea what was going on and then Robert goes on to say ‘The person who took the longest, suffered the most and has a bit of a story to tell about how we got here’ and thats when I noticed Donna has a T-Shirt and she was giving that away.
So I am standing there, Gobsmacked that people are looking at me and I don’t know whats gonna happen next. The workshop attendees at that point have no idea about the whole ordeal of me missing two flights in a row and ending up in the wrong hotel before actually getting to the workshop.
Donna announces ‘Maddi why don’t you come up here on stage’ and I am like Nooooo
This is the brief conversation we had when I was on stage with Donna:
Donna Fox: Hey Maddi, just briefly tell everyone How long is the drive to Bristol from where you were coming?
Maddi: 6 hours max.
Donna Fox : How long did it take you to get here?
Maddi: 16 hours
* The audience laughed*
Donna Fox: How did you get here Maddi?
Maddi: I took a plane which is a 1 hour flight.
* The audience had a confused look for a second and then erupted into a big laughter*
With that Donna Fox thanked me and gave me an LFMpire T-Shirt to be proud of because it was well deserved and Jonny Andrews stood next to the stage giggling at my rigmarole journey.
Moral: At first I wasn’t really happy about it and that it was funny but not really good for my profile if you know what I mean. But it soon dawned upon me, that it actually boost my profile and people who didn’t know me, knew me. It got on me on quite a few people’s radar and now they remember me by name. I remember Chris Johnson said to me during the workshop that ‘Maddi, being different is good. Being average is not’.
I am a full time Internet Marketer, but I still have a long way to go and this actually turned to be in my favor and Big Marketers who probably go to these events all over the world, will remember me if you know what I mean
This post is getting quite long now and I hope it hasn’t been boring and that you got something out of it. Not only it was a test of commitment for me to get there at any cost but it actually helped me to get to know great people and make some awesome friends. I look forward to attending as many of these events as possible but hopefully not missing flights this time.

Maddi, it sounds like you had a successful time regardless of the travel complications. The extra publicity it generated will be valuable.
I once took a plane flight from Sydney to Brisbane (Australia) that was scheduled to leave at 6:45pm. Due to mechanical complications the flight was delayed. It finally departed at 9:30pm only to develop mechanical problems mid-flight. Because it was a Friday night they had to return to Sydney for repairs. At around 11:45pm that night we finally set off for Brisbane. I got home early Saturday morning
The upside was that I did get to know a couple of my fellow passengers in the waiting lounge.
Anyway, sometimes what might be counted a negative experience turns out to be a positive turning point in our lives.
So you know how it feels right? its a nightmare sometimes but you gotta do what you gotta do and I quite like the upside, there is always one. Its just the attitude that counts at the end of the day.
Thanks for the comment Michael.
Hey Maddi, OMG what a complete nightmare you had, but I bet it was all worth it, I remember walking up and down a big street trying to find that hotel and it was staring me in the FACE!
Next year you will find it no problem!
Sally
Yea I better find it next year haha
Sometimes things are right under the nose and we can’t find them. How is your blog competition doing anyway?
Anyone reading this comment, do check out Sally’s blog – its awesome.

Ed
Hey Ed,
Yea it was good to meet you too mate. Bristol was fun wasn’t it?
I’ll check out your blog now, keep in touch mate.

Maddi M
Hey Maddi!
You’re FAMOUS!! I am sorry it took so long for you to get there, but I am so glad you went. Maybe next time you can drive!!
So glad you kept a positive attitude cause sometimes when things don’t go our way….folks get a little grumpy.
You know we only get angry when we are afraid of not getting what we want, or afraid of losing what we already have. (sounds kind of selfish to me!!)
You know you had me over here cheering you on! Can’t wait to hear what really happened over there!
Take care and God bless! =)
Lisa~
Hey Lisa, yea you kept me going via skype and text throughout man, so I wasn’t completely bored and thats what good friends are for
You kept my adventure from becoming a nightmare
Sorry replying late, you know I’ve been really busy with stuff.
Take care
Maddi M
Hi Maddi,
That was a great story!
You really do have to have an angle in life and although you did not plan it, your little escapade tuned into your angle and brought you lots of attention.
You were rewarded for you tenacious nature…
Everything really does happen for a reason. The key to enjoying it is learning to go with the flow
I am looking forward to part 2
Kathy
Hey Kathy,
Yea I learnt long ago that positive and negative is in the head really, I try and see the light at the end of the tunnel because no one state is permanent anyway. Whatever the state, it will pass
Part 2 coming soon, thanks for your comment.
Maddi M
Hi Maddi,
Good to meet you at LFMpire.. You will be the talk of the net for a while.. Enjoy my friend
Dee
Oh yea I will Dee. It was great to meet you too.
I’ll see you soon at some other event but this time, I ain’t flying
Maddi M
Hey Maddi,
It certainly brought you to everyone’s attention didn’t it?
And then it was a great ice-breaker and now we have started to develop a nice little
online friendship along with a few others. There’s got to be a moral in there somewhere.
So all in all, it was great to meet you and thanks for the laugh at your expense!
Andy
Yea thats one of things I got from that mockery, Not only did I appear on a few radars, I gotta meet you guys and definitely loving the online group going now.
There is always a positive side to everything. Did I tell you I kept the shorts I borrowed from the lost and found section of the hotel when we went for a swim? LOL
See ya soon,
Maddi M
Hey Maddi,
Those shorts belong to a different story, I think the best thing was when he asked you to bring them back when you had finished with them..
It was great to meet you along with all the other folks that were there.
Next time make sure you leave for your flight early though eh.
Talk soon,
James
Oh don’t even go there mate – don’t wanna remember the shorts
When he asked me to bring them back, I was like WHATT!! am I really supposed to? [yeah right
]
It was good to meet you too mate and next time, I ain’t flying
